Gun Violence Prevention

On average, 89 people die from gun violence in America every day. Two-thirds of those gun deaths are suicides which are three times more likely to happen if there is a gun in the home.  An average of seven children and teens under the age of 20 are killed by guns every day.

Abused women are five times more likely to be killed by the abuser if their abuser owns a firearm.

Americans are guaranteed the right to bear arms by our Constitution. However, we have had far too many of these weapons fall into the hands of individuals who abuse that right. Lisa supports sensible gun safety legislation that will keep guns out of the hands of criminals in order to prevent gun related tragedies.

Such legislation includes universal background checks for all gun purchases, including those purchased at gun shows or on the Internet.  9 out of 10 Americans support such background checks and yet our elected representatives in Congress fail to act.  Lisa will fight to represent the interests of her constituents and not the gun lobby. Lisa also supports reinstatement of the Federal Assault weapons ban, a ban on high capacity magazines and legislation that prevents those guilty of domestic violence, those on the terror watch list, or the mentally ill from being allowed to purchase a gun. Lisa adamantly opposes any efforts to enact legislation allowing for concealed carry reciprocity.
